Chalk Hill Cellar Door
The new Chalk Hill Cellar Door provides a stunning backdrop for the boutique, family owned winery, based in McLaren Vale, SA. The family have been growing grapes here for 6 generations so it was a great privilege for Marie-Clare to be asked to design their new home. Getting involved at a very early stage, helping to shape the architecture of the building along with the interiors of the cellar door, and right through to furniture and styling, was an exciting creative process.
Set high above the McLaren Vale township, a central 2 way wood fire chimney, clad in brickwork is the focal point of the Cellar Door and the private Alpha Crucis tasting room. A mix of polished concrete, herringbone oak cabinetry, textural tiles, luxurious fabrics and feature lighting have been used to offset the gorgeous views across the lush green landscape.
A feature lighting sculpture was designed by Marie-Clare and her client to bring people into the covered breezeway entry. Handcrafted out of a 100 year old vine with vintage bulbs winding around it’s aged canes, it creates a welcoming aesthetic and the perfect backdrop for a great South Australian wine brand to be showcased.
